What are you Learning?

Winter has always been a time to broaden my horizons in the kitchen.  One year I tried my hand at rolling sushi.  Another, I honed my made-from-scratch soup repertoire.  Gaining experience, improving skills, and learning new recipes keeps me fresh and invigorated!

This year, I vowed to shun store-bought granola and salad dressing, opting instead to make my own at home.  In this post, we’ll focus on the granola.  I really lucked out on an easy, yet delicious recipe here.

In this video, the Joe, of Joe and Frankie, is Joe Scully of Westmoreland and Scully, the creators of two of Asheville’s highly acclaimed restaurants, Corner Kitchen and Chestnut.  The latter of which is my favorite formal restaurant in Asheville.  I’ve not patronized Corner Kitchen, but I trust that it’s a culinary delight.  President Barak and First Lady Michelle Obama dined there in 2010!

My favorite part in the video is when Joe says that granola is not exact, giving the go ahead to experiment!  I find making it relaxing.  Measure and mix the ingredients, then bake.  Just don’t burn!!  We set a timer for each round of baking.

I think we are saving money by not buying prepared granola, but it is a tradeoff, because we eat more!!
